Exercise To Reduce Cancer Risk

Following on from our Last blog about exercising to improve health rather than focusing on weight loss, heres a bit more information on exercise to reduce risk for cancer.
This comes from the National Cancer Institute in USA and has some great stats from global research in to exercise and Cancer. Here is a summary of some statistics

  • Adults who increase their physical activity, either in intensity, duration, or frequency, can reduce their risk of developing colon cancer by 30 to 40 percent relative to those who are sedentary regardless of body mass index (BMI)

  • Physically active women have a lower risk of developing breast cancer than inactive women;  the amount of risk reduction achieved through physical activity varies widely between studies  but is between 20 to 80 percent risk reduction

  • Women who are physically active have a 20 percent to 40 percent reduced risk of endometrial cancer (6), with the greatest reduction in risk among those with the highest levels of physical activity.

So how much exercise is the begging question ??? At least 30 minutes moderate intensity exercise 5 days a week or at least 20 minutes vigerous activity 3 or more days per week is the suggested dosage. The more the better in most cases
